Big-box store Carts and equipment

A Georgia jury returned a $1.2 million verdict against the operator of a big-box store after one of its employees struck a shopper with a shopping cart.

The shopper was in the store in Jasper, in Pickens County, in 2020 when the employee hit her with the cart. She injured her neck and back. The impact aggravated a disc herniation she already had, and she needed spinal surgery. Her lawyers said she now lives with daily pain that limits ordinary activities.

The case was tried in the State Court of Forsyth County. Before trial the store’s highest settlement offer was $350,000, which she turned down. The verdict was reported in June 2024. The reports do not give the exact verdict date or break down the damages.

We found no appeal of the verdict on the Court of Appeals of Georgia docket as of October 2026.
