$3.96M verdict after a shopper slipped on liquid in a supermarket aisle
Staff had cleaned up liquid in the same spot before she fell.
Amount awarded by the jury $3,967,000 Osceola County Circuit Court (Ninth Judicial Circuit) · February 2026 · Osceola County, Florida
An Osceola County jury awarded $3,967,000 to a 30-year-old woman who slipped on liquid in the soft drink aisle of a supermarket in Kissimmee in June 2023. The verdict came in February 2026 after a six-day trial.
Her lawyers said evidence at trial showed employees had cleaned liquid in the same area before she fell. She had three spinal surgeries, one on her neck and two on her back. The store denied liability, argued she was not hurt and blamed her complaints on carrying her children months earlier. The jury found the store 100 percent at fault.
The award was $411,000 for past medical expenses, $556,000 for future medical expenses, $750,000 for past pain and suffering and $2.25 million for future pain and suffering. Her lawyers said the store’s last offer before trial was $600,000.
In March 2026 the store moved for a new trial on all damages. It argued the court let the jury see inflated medical bills instead of the limited evidence Florida’s 2023 tort reform law allows, and asked in the alternative to cut past medical damages to about $34,000. We have not found a ruling on that motion.
