Amount awarded by the jury $1.7M As reported. The source gives a rounded figure, not exact dollars. Orange County Circuit Court (Ninth Judicial Circuit) · November 2012 · Orange County, Florida
An Orange County jury awarded $1.7 million to a man who was shot twice, robbed and carjacked in the parking lot of a full-service hotel near International Drive in Orlando.
His attorneys told the jury the lot was pitch black the night of the shooting, about four years before trial. They argued that the hotel’s security officer was used as a cost-saving “two-for-one,” doubling as a housekeeper, and surveillance video showed guards handing out towels.
He sued the hotel’s owner and its security contractor. The hotel company denied his claims and said it would appeal the verdict. We have not found a report of how the appeal was resolved.
